Metin2 is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) developed by Ymir Entertainment Co., Ltd. and released in Korea in 2004. It has since been published in many European countries by Gameforge 4D GmbH, in the USA by G4Box Inc and in Singapore by TEC Interactive Pte. Other versions exist in Asian languages.

Story

A long time ago there was only a single empire that existed in the continent. The land experienced tranquility and peace and did not know the concept of war or illness. The people of this continent lived happily together.

Their fate began to change as a huge stone descended from the sky; this stone was known as the Metin stone. The Metin stone began transforming animals into monsters, its very presence creating deadly diseases that spread around the world. Innocent people suffered as those who were slain by these beasts or choked to death by disease later rose again as undead. The undead caused chaos and destruction in their wake with seemingly endless numbers. Their tireless existence appeared as if this problem was not going to go away. Eventually the single empire collapsed and became three different kingdoms, all fighting for their own survival. To this very day, they still treat each other as enemies.

The falling of the Metin Stone was just the beginning of what was yet to come. Smaller stones continued to fall from time to time, and all three Kingdoms lived in fear. None would dare approach the Metin Stones because the most terrifying creatures roam around here. Recently, it was discovered that the power of the Metin Stone was growing and people felt that it was consuming energy from the world.

It is believed that these incidents caused the Dragon God to appear on the continent and people hoped that he would restore their lands to a peaceful state again.

Characters

Players can choose to be in one of four categories: Warrior, Shaman, Ninja or Sura. Each category may have subcategories in which the player can specialise in.

Gameplay

Movement

In Metin2, one controls his or her character movement through the mouse and keyboard (arrow keys and WASD). The left click mouse (or spacebar) is used to target and attack groups of enemies and can be configured to attack manually or automatically.

Hotkeys

There are a number of hotkeys in Metin to make the game easier to play, indeed without hotkeys, Metin would be almost impossible to play at the higher levels.

K → interact with other characters

I → opens inventory

C → opens character screen and displays stats and other conditions

V → opens the skill menu

B → opens the emotions menu

N → opens the quest log

M → opens the world map

Alt+G → opens guild menu

Ctrl+Q → closes the quest icons on the screen

Alt+M → opens the friend list

Space → attack without targeting anyone

Crtl+H → get off or on the horse

Player versus Player (PvP)

PvP in Metin2 is available once a character reaches level 15. There are 3 ways to battle other players. The first is to challenge a person to a duel by right-clicking the desired opponent and selecting the "Duel" option. This is the most common way and in the case of death, no experience points are lost. The second way is to fight a player from a different kingdom. This way does not require requesting a fight as kingdoms are preset to be hostile to each other. In the case of death, experience points can be lost. The third way is to activate the "free" option under the game play menu. This allows players to attack and be attacked by any player regardless of kingdom or consent. Experience can be lost this way and rank points are lost when in this mode. If a player loses too many rank points, their ethos will change to "cruel" and they will have negative points which leads to lower drop rates and distrust by other players. At level 50 or above, Cruel ethos (title) players have a chance to drop items.

Comment: I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about a free MMORPG called Metin 2. 

This was the first real MMORPG experience for me, the reason for searching for a free MMORPG was that I was not sure if I would like/have time to play as much as a paid subscription would require me to do, to be able to justify the cost. I did try alot of different games before finally downloading the metin 2 client, the reason why I stayed with this one was that it was easy to understand the interface while it was powerful at the same time. You get missions at the start of the game that help you get used to the controls and help you explore more of the world, while giving some experience points and some ingame currency. 

The graphics are very good and can even match several of the games that actually cost money and you dont need the latest graphics board to be able to play the game in a decent resolution either. 

The sound effects are pretty basic, but I can honestly say that they are more than enough for a game of this kind anyway. All monsters and player classes do have their own sounds and i suppose the only thing to wish for is that the monsters would actually say the things they show in speech bubbles above their heads ;) 

The music is very soothing and have in some way managed to get very nostalgic for me, I used to have it running all the time when I was a low level player just starting the game and now when i pause my mp3 player and actually listen to the game music again I get a very nostalgic feeling of hearing the tunes from the first maps. 

The game is free, but you can buy a currency in their "Item shop", this currency you trade for other items that can help enhance your gaming experience. There is absolutely no need to spend money on this game, you can reach high levels without it since no items lock on to any characters, this means that enhanced items can be bought for the in game currency or traded for other items with players. 

Items can be upgraded with the "help" of a blacksmith, the items can require different materials to be upgraded together with some ingame currency, this also helps bring the game forward as it gives you goals to obtain to finally be able to try your new shiny sword to the next level. Although a word of warning, the items can break and then you will lose it completely, there are ways to avoid this and you will learn after managing to grasp the more advanced concepts of the game. 

The only regret I have after managing to reach level 76 is that I started playing on the United Kingdom server. There are several different servers and the most advanced one is the Korean server since that is where the game is developed, sadly that version is only in korean, so unless you can read that you are pretty much stuck in one of the other versions. The difference between the american version of the game and all the european versions is that the american version is licensed by G4BOX, which means they have access to the source code and can fix bugs and add features themselves. The european versions are run by Gameforge, a company based in Germany which did not license the game and that is why they need to wait for the korean developers to fix the bugs and implement features for them. 

I can NOT recommend to anyone to start playing Metin 2 on a server that is run by Gameforge and especially not the United Kingdom server. The item shop prices are much higher on the european servers compared to the american, the american server has a much bigger team ready to help all players and competent developers able to fix bugs and implement new features as soon as they are needed. The american server is far more advanced than any of the european servers as well and that will make the game last much longer than any of the european servers. Remember that you can not transfer your character to any other server. 

Another great problem with the United Kingdom server is that the team responsible for supporting the server are corrupt and are using their powers to ban, create items and characters for their friends. The top team members recently fired all other members to make sure their power can not be removed easily. 

It is a great game and I am sure you will enjoy playing it.

Metin 2 este un joc online. Jocul este de tip MMORPG (massive_multiplayer_online_role_playing_game). Necesită o înregistrare pe site-ul principal, respectiv metin2.ro, pentru varianta românească. Există 4 clase de personaje: Razboinic, Ninja, Saman, Sura. Fiecare clasă de personaje poate fi trecută de la masculin la feminin şi invers.

Următorul pas este downloadarea clientului (jocul în sine).Jucătorii trebuie să înainteze în levele obţinând cât mai multă experienţă, prin mai multe metode, să devină din ce în ce mai puternici mărindu-şi abilităţile magice, care sunt de două feluri pentru fiecare clasă şi au posibilitatea de a face misiuni, de a pescui, de a se căsători şi de a se duela. In joc sunt mai multe hărţi în care te poţi teleporta şi dacă omori animale poţi câştiga "yang" (sau "gold" în varianta americană) , care este moneda de schimb a jocului.
